Bill Pierre was a minor league position player until 1929, playing for the Buffalo Bisons in the International League(1922), Greensboro in the Piedmont League (1923), the Durham Bulls in the Piedmont League (1924), Alexandria in the Cotton States League (1926-1927), Montgomery in the Southeastern League (1927-1928) and Baton Rouge in the Cotton States League (1929).
Scouting for the New York Giants , Brooklyn Dodgers , Detroit Tigers , St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees (1927-1959), he discovered and/or signed players such as Ray Berres , Ben Chapman , Le Grant Scott , Walt Streuli , Abe White , Dixie Walker , Whitey Lockman , Frank House , Frank Lary , Frank Bolling , Coot Veal , Bobo Osborne and Don Bryant.
