Biographical Information

Monroe "Dolly" Stark played four seasons in the majors. In his best season with the bat, he hit .295 for the 1911 Brooklyn Dodgers under manager Bill Dahlen.

There have been three players (through 2024) remembered with the first name Dolly. The first was Dolly Gray, who broke into the majors in April 1909. The second was Dolly Stark, who made his debut later in 1909. The third was another Dolly Gray, who came up in 1924. There was also an umpire named Dolly Stark in the 1920s.

Stark, who was born in Mississippi, played 14 years in the minors, mostly in the South. He also managed several seasons in the minors. In 1919-20 with Augusta he managed the young Curt Walker, who went on to a long major league career. Stark died in Memphis after being shot to death.
