Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Frank House began his career with the Detroit Tigers when he signed out of high school for one of the largest bonuses ever paid at the time (around $75,000). Nicknamed "Pig", House missed the 1951 and 1952 seasons due to military service.

A steady and reliable receiver, the sturdy and muscular House finished his career with a lofty 47 percent caught-stealing ratio - better than most Hall of Fame catchers. He later played with the Kansas City Athletics and Cincinnati Reds and hit .248 over a ten-year career. After his playing days ended, he served in the Alabama legislature. House also played a vital role in establishing the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Hall in 1975.
