Biographical Information[edit]
Walt Streuli was at Southwestern University at Memphis in 1954 and came up to the majors one day before his 19th birthday with the Detroit Tigers in 1954. He was also with the Tigers in 1955 and 1956 for a total of 6 games as a catcher. He got 3 hits, 2 of which were doubles.
Streuli was in the minors beginning in 1953 and hit .294 for the Durham Bulls in 1954. In 1955 he appeared in 99 games with the Buffalo Bisons, a team which also featured Jim Bunning. Bunning, who was several years older than Streuli, came up to the Tigers for the first time in 1955.
The book The Detroit Tigers: A Pictorial Celebration has a photo of him and other catcher hopefuls from 1956.
