During spring training, the 2024 Tampa Bay Rays were selected to play a special two-game exhibition series against the Boston Red Sox at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal in Santo Domingo on March 9-10. There had never been any major league games played in the Dominican Republic at that time, and the series was a way for MLB to gauge the possibility of eventually staging regular season games in the baseball-mad country at some point in the future.
