Season Highlights[edit]
The 2024 Los Angeles Angels tied the franchise mark for most losses in a season - 95, set by the 1980 edition of the team - by losing on back-to-back nights to the Chicago White Sox, who had just tied the 1962 Mets' mark for most losses in a season since 1900, with 120. Those two losses on September 24-25 were typical of a season during which nothing went right, starting with losing their best player, Shohei Ohtani, to free agency during the off-season only to see him sign with the cross-town Los Angeles Dodgers and have a historic season, and then losing their next-best player, Mike Trout, to a season-ending injury after just 29 games. They were then swept in their final series, against the Texas Rangers, to finish at 63-99, easily erasing their all-time mark. In fact, they were on the losing end in nine of their final ten games, including the last six in succession to end a terrible season on a fittingly bad note. For Ron Washington, who was managing the team for a first year, it was easily his worst result in nine seasons as a big league skipper - he had never lost more than 87 games in a season before that, although in his final season with the Rangers, in 2024, he had a worse winning percentage but was replaced after 140 games.
