Season Highlights[edit]

The 2024 Miami Marlins started their season in nightmarish fashion after making the postseason in 2023. They opened the year by being swept at home in four games by the Pittsburgh Pirates, then also lost their next five games to fall to 0-9 before finally winning a game on April 7th, when they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 10-3, at Busch Stadium. During the losing streak, they were outscored 62-30. And if losing was not enough, they also learned during that time that one of their best young pitchers the year before, Eury Pérez would have to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the entire season. He joined former Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara, who had had to undergo the same procedure towards the end of the previous season.

The season, which ended with the team losing 100 games and finishing in last place in the NL East, was marked by constant roster churn as the Marlins used a record 70 players in at least one game. One year after being named the NL Manager of the Year, skipper Skip Schumaker decided to leave as the season wound down. In fact, he missed the final series of the season for personal reasons, during which the Marlins swept the Toronto Blue Jays in three games; Luis Urueta filled in as acting manager in his absence.
