Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Ryan Goins reached the majors in 2013.

Selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth round of the 2009 amateur draft, Goins made his pro debut that year with the GCL Blue Jays. Playing for the Lansing Lugnuts, he hit his first professional home run on Opening Day of the 2010 season. He hit .289 for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2012 and led the Eastern League with 158 hits. He spent most of 2013 with the AAA Buffalo Bisons before being called up to the majors in late August when Maicer Izturis went on the disabled list. He made his big league debut on August 23rd, going 2-for-4 with a double against the Houston Astros.

On May 1, 2017, Goins became the first player in Blue Jays history to collect 2 RBIs on one sacrifice fly. His 6th-inning drive to deep center field at New Yankee Stadium was caught by Jacoby Ellsbury, but he crashed into the fence as he made the catch and tumbled to the ground, allowing Devon Travis to score from second, behind Justin Smoak who had easily made it home from third base. It was a great day at the plate for Goins, as he had previously hit a two-run homer off Luis Severino in the 2nd in a 7-1 win over the New York Yankees. Goins was standing in for injured SS Troy Tulowitzki at the time, and was solid during his stint as the Jays' starting shortstop, hitting .219 with 3 homers and 15 RBIs in 22 games from May 1-24 in addition to his usual sparkling defensive play. He finished that stretch by hitting a grand slam in an 8-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, the first of his career, coming off Oliver Drake. On September 22nd, he pulled off the hidden ball trick against Todd Frazier of the Yankees, catching him stepping off second base while he was unaware that Goins still had the ball in his glove. He also hit a grand slam in this game, which the Jays won, 8-1. He finished the season at .237 in 143 games, with 9 homers and 62 RBIs, but in a relatively surprising move, on December 1st, he was non-tendered by the Blue Jays after they had acquired IF Aledmys Diaz from the St. Louis Cardinals in a trade. Diaz was expected to take over for him as the team's primary back-up infielder.

On January 24, 2018, he signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals.

In 2024, he was named infield coach with the Los Angeles Angels.

Goins' father and his uncle Tim Goins both played minor league ball.
