The 2011 Hoofdklasse season began on April 8, 2011, with the defending champion Neptunus club winning a 2-0 shutout over the Amsterdam Pirates.

The league adopted the IBAF international tournament rule for tie-breakers. When a game is tied at the end of nine innings, both teams begin all further innings with men on first and second, starting their batting order wherever they would like. The new rule was first employed in the Hoofdklasse on April 25. Oddly, one of the umpires (Olav Steijger) and the official scorer (Olav's wife Linda Steijger) had each worked another first for the tie-breaker rule - Olav in the 2008 World Junior Championship (the first time it was used) and Linda in the 2008 Olympics (the first Olympic game it was used in).

On June 11, Amsterdam's Rob Cordemans became the fourth Hoofdklasse pitcher to reach 1,500 strikeouts and also moved into second on the league's career win list (with his 140th win). He fanned 14 to beat ADO, 6-0. He would finish with his 6th Pitcher of the Year award, putting him second in history behind Herman Beidschat. On July 19, Dirk van 't Klooster of Kinheim got his 1,000th hit, the second Hoofdklasse player to that figure.
