Nik Gumeson was All-State in high school. He hit .261 at Southern Idaho in 2006, then improved to .451 in 2007 with 16 steals. He transferred to Lamar University and hit .286 in 2008. Transferring again, this time to Utah, he was redshirted in 2009. In 2010, Gumeson hit .326/.364/.587 with 12 home runs in 184 AB. He joined college teammate Mark-Jan Moorman on the Pioniers club in the Netherlands in 2011.
