Biographical information[edit]

Arshwin Asjes grew up in the Netherlands and went to high school in Maine. In junior college, he was 8-2 with a 3.25 ERA. The Cleveland Indians took him in the 34th round of the 2005 amateur draft but he did not sign. He transferred to Temple and went 1-5 with a 6.25 ERA as a sophomore. His junior year, he improved to 5-7, 4.26. Moving to the bullpen as a senior, he went 0-2 with a 4.00 ERA and a school-record 10 saves.

Asjes signed with the Midwest Sliders in 2009 and went 1-4 with 12 saves and a 5.00 ERA. He debuted for the Dutch national team in the 2009 Baseball World Cup.

In December 2009, Jim Stoeckel, pitching coach for the Dutch national team and a Cincinnati Reds scout, signed Asjes for the Reds.
