The 2001 International League season was the 116th in the league's history, and ended with the Louisville RiverBats winning their first Governors' Cup.
Due to the September 11th attacks, all Minor League Baseball playoffs were postponed and eventually canceled. Louisville and Scranton had played the first game of the finals the night before, and IL president Randy Mobley declared Louisville champions after players on both teams voted not to continue the series.
