Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder P.J. Forbes played only briefly in the majors. He appeared in 9 games for the Baltimore Orioles in 1998, when he was already 30 years old, going 1 for 10. In 2001, he went 2 for 7 in 3 games for the Philadelphia Phillies.
He was originally drafted by the California Angels out of Wichita State University in the 20th round of the 1990 Amateur Draft. He played in the minors from 1990 to 2002, appearing in 1,356 games in 13 seasons. He reached AAA in 1993 and played 10 seasons at the level. That included four seasons for the Vancouver Canadians of the Pacific Coast League, three with the Rochester Red Wings of the International League, and three with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, also of the I.L. He also spent a half season with the Oklahoma City 89ers in the PCL. He hit .280 during his time in the minors, with 732 runs, 276 doubles, 43 homers and 559 RBIs. He was mainly a second baseman but also saw significant playing time in the outfield and at shortstop.
He retired as a player in the spring of 2003 and managed the Lakewood BlueClaws in 2004 and 2005. In 2006, he became the skipper of the Reading Phillies, staying for three seasons. He was elected to the Rochester Red Wings Hall of Fame in 2006.
