History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 2001 Detroit Tigers were mired in a spate of losing campaigns. The team featured seven players who reached double digits in home runs, but none of them got to 20; Robert Fick paced the team with 19. Roger Cedeno was electric on the base paths, swiping 55 bases and leading the team with a .293 batting average. On the mound, Steve Sparks had a career year, leading the team with 14 victories against 9 losses, while posting a 3.65 ERA with 8 complete games in 232 innings pitched -- all of the aforementioned led the club's starters, as well. The bullpen was in rough shape. Phenom-turned-bust Matt Anderson (22 saves) and stalwart Todd Jones (11 saves) both earned save opportunities, while Danny Patterson led the corps with a 3.06 ERA, while striking out just 27 in 64 2/3 innings pitched.
