Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Eric Valent hit .295 with 11 runs, 3 triples, 2 homers and 16 RBI for the US in the 1994 World Junior Championship. He led the team in RBI and they won the Bronze Medal. He helped the tam win Gold in the 1995 World Junior Championship, batting a team-high .394 with 9 runs and 9 RBI, also team-leading figures. He made the All-Tournament outfield alongside Yoandy Garlobo and teammate Brent Abernathy. In the 1997 Intercontinental Cup, Valent hit .267/.342/.433 as Team USA's left fielder. He was 0 for 4 with a walk in the Bronze Medal game loss to Australia.

On July 29, 2004, Valent hit for the eighth cycle in New York Mets history against the Montreal Expos.

Valent signed with the Rakuten Golden Eagles for 50 million yen (approximately $430,000) per year on May 25, 2006. He debuted with the team in mid-June of the same season. He only hit .189/.257/.259 in 24 games, with 22 strikeouts in 74 AB, and was placed on waivers on September 19th.

In 2008-2009, Valent was a coach for the Williamsport Crosscutters. He then became a scout for the Philadelphia Phillies, covering Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
