São Paulo is the capital of the state of São Paulo in the southeast of Brazil.
The city has an area of 1,523.0 square kilometers (588 sq mi) and a population of 11,016,703, which makes it the most populous in the southern hemisphere. It hosted the Pan American Games in 1963.
