Biographical Information[edit]

Leonardo Oliveira was on the roster for the Brazilian national team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but did not pitch in a game. He was Brazil's second-youngest hurler; Eric Pardinho was only 15. He did see action in the 2018 South American Championship, posting a 2.25 ERA in three games pitched (he was used in all three of their games against top rival Argentina). He also backed up Felipe Tanaka in right field, going 0 for 2. In the Gold Medal Game, with a spot in the 2019 Pan American Games at stake, he relieved Igor Kimura in the top of the 5th with a 2-0 deficit, one on and one out. He retired Eduardo Zurbriggen on a grounder but Juan Martín singled in Jacinto Cipriota before Martín was caught stealing. He went 1-2-3 in the 6th after Brazil moved back within two. In the 7th, he allowed a leadoff single to Agustín Tissera but struck out both Sebastián García and Mauricio Costa and retired the game's offensive star, Cipriota. In the 8th, Jean Tomé took over but Argentina would tack on four more unanswered runs to put it away. He tied Marco Davalos for the most games pitched in the Championship and tied Lucas Ramón for 5th in ERA. His 7 2/3 IP tied Kimura for 5th.
