Biographical Information[edit]
Gabriel Asakura has pitched for the Brazilian national team.
Asakura helped Brazil to a Silver Medal in the 2004 South American Championship. He came to the US for college. He was 4-1 with a 2.85 ERA for West Los Angeles College in 2009. Transferring to Cal State LA, he dazzled at 7-2, 1.38 in 2011 and was named California Collegiate Athletic Association Co-Pitcher of the Year. Daktronis named him a third-team All-American for NCAA Division I. In 2012, the senior hurler fell a bit to 7-3, 2.71. He pitched for Brazil in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, as they surprisingly won a spot in the 2013 World Baseball Classic. He turned in a gem in his lone outing, relieving Carlos Yoshimura with a 2-1 lead over Colombia and tossing 2 2/3 shutout innings with one hit (to Donovan Solano), no walks and 5 whiffs (including Edgar Renteria).
