Lucas Sakay has been on the Brazilian national team.
He hit .484/.568/.871 in the 2012 U-15 Baseball World Cup, with 5 triples in 8 games and 11 steals in 12 tries. He fielded .811 at short. He led the event with 17 runs, tied for the most hits (15), led in triples, led in swipes (by 5) and was second to Marten Gasparini in miscues. [1] In the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup, he batted .275/.313/.345 and fielded .857. His six errors led the event, one ahead of Gasparini, Cole Stobbe, Andrea Sellaroli and Vojtěch Menšík. [2]
Going to the US for junior college, he hit .299 in 2018 and .275 in 2019. Transferring to Hawai'i-Hilo, he hit .317/.317/.390 before the season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID visa guideliens kept him stranded in Brazil in 2021. [3] As a redshirt senior, he produced at a .261/.393/.311 clip.
He then played for Brazil in the 2023 Pan American Games, backing up Lucas Rojo at short. He pinch-ran for Salomon Koba in his debut. After two pinch-running appearances, he got one game in the field, starting at short against Mexico. He singled off Carlos Morales his first time up, reached on an error and scored their only run of the game then drew a walk from Samuel Zazueta to have reached all three trips to the plate. He handled four chances error-free at short. Brazil won the Silver Medal, their best baseball finish in a Pan American Games to that point. [4]
