The Empire League, formally known as the Empire Professional Baseball League, is an independent league that began play in 2016. It runs a 40-game schedule. It is considered a replacement of the North Country Baseball League, and by extension the East Coast Baseball League, the latter of which disbanded before playing a single game. All current teams play in northeast New York state, however the circuit has also featured clubs based in Maine, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Puerto Rico. Multiple players have signed with major league organizations, though none have reached or played in the major leagues yet. Alum Trey Hannam signed to be a coach in the New York Mets system in 2020.
