Biographical Information[edit]

Dimitri Lettas has pitched for the Greek national team.

Lettas was 1-1 with a save and a 4.88 ERA in 18 games as a college freshman then was medically redshirted for a year. Returning in 2016, he fell to 1-1, 8.80 then allowed 11 runs (8 earned) in 4 2/3 IP his last season. [1] He pitched for Greece in the 2018 C-Level European Championship; he and his brother Nick combined for 12 1/3 shutout innings. Dimitri debuted in a loss to Ireland, relieving his brother in the 5th and working two shutout frames (1 H, 3 K) before Andy Orfanakos took over. He closed out the win over Norway, striking out 7 of 9 batters and teaming with his brother on a whitewash. [2]

The right-hander next appeared for Greece in the 2021 European Championship as Greece returned to Europe's main stage. He debuted versus Austria, replacing Yanni Orfanidis with one out in the 10th, two on and a 12-7 deficit. He walked Philipp Eckel but escaped further harm by getting Ferdinand Obed and Sammy Hackl. That proved huge as Greece scored five in the bottom of the inning to tie it. A fellow Dimitri, Dimitri Kourtis, took over at that point. Lettas next pitched against Belgium, relieving Kourtis with a 2-1 deficit and one out in the 7th. He started well, striking out Yves Poesmans and Benjamin Goffaux then getting Drew Janssen on a grounder. Greece then scored. In the 8th, he retired Dennis De Quint and Benjamin Dille to mark 7 straight outs before Axel Poesmans singled and Robin Roevens got hit. Jamie Verheyleweghen flew out to keep it 2-2. Greece scored twice in the 9th to put him in position for the win, but things collapsed in the bottom of the 9th as he walked Sam Boermans, plunked PH Zion De Brauwer, walked Goffaux and walked Janssen to make it 4-3. Daniel Gosselin relieved but let two inherited runners score to hand Lettas the loss. His next game came as a DH against France. He struck out and grounded out against Owen Ozanich but then doubled off Eric Moore and scored on a Max Warren hit for Greece's first run of the day. He struck out against José Paula to end the 9th but then scored as a starting runner under the WBSC extra innings rule in the 10th. Paula struck him out in the 12th but Greece wound up winning in that inning. His last game, he played left field in the 13th/14th place game versus Ukraine. He grounded out against Kostiantyn Chukhas but later walked and scored then hit a sac fly to score Nick Halamandaris in the 5th. He grounded out his last at-bat to finish the Euros 1-for-8 but with four runs produced; he was 0-0 with a 10.13 ERA. [3]
