Eric Moore

Biographical Information[edit]

Eric Moore has pitched for the French national team. His brother Ryan Moore later did so as well. [1]

Moore allowed 4 runs (1 earned) in 9 innings as a college freshman, was 1-2 with a 1.85 ERA as a sophomore and 3-2 with a save and a 3.03 ERA as a junior. He walked 40 in 69 IP over those three seasons. [2] His mother was of French descent so he reached out to the French Baseball and Softball Federation about playing for them and they picked him up. [3] He was 0-1 with a 0.77 ERA in four games for the 2019 Paris Université Club and hit .333/.429/.417. [4]

In the 2019 European Championship, he suited up for France. He was their only pitcher not to be charged with a run in a 16-2 loss to Italy. Relieving Yoann Vaugelade in the 6th with a 8-2 deficit and one on, he gave up a RBI single to Erick Epifano and a single to Aldo Koutsoyanopulos but got Drew Maggi to flew out. In the 7th, Alessandro Vaglio doubled but Moore retired former major leaguer Chris Colabello. Giuseppe Mazzanti reached on a fielder's choice but Alberto Mineo hit into a double play. Antoine Rault took over in the 8th. In his other outing, he was not as successful. Relieving Leonel Cespedes with a 3-0 lead against Spain in the 7th, Lesther Galván hit into an error. Moore walked Fernando Martínez and Yancarlo Franco then Blake Ochoa hit a two-run single. Dan Camou relieved and both inherited runners scored, giving Moore 4 runs (2 earned) and no outs on the day; he took the loss. His 13.50 ERA for the event was not France's highest as Esteban Prioul and Rault were both higher. [5]

Eric was on France's announced roster for the 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers before that was one of the first baseball events canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic. [6] He was 0-1 for the Toulouse Tigers in '21, allowing three walks and three unearned runs in an inning of work. [7] Despite that, he still made France's team for the 2021 European Championship. He allowed four hits and three runs (all earned) in 3 2/3 IP, striking out four. He saved Quentin Moulin's 5-4 win over Russia. [8]
