Biographical Information[edit]

Cerilio Soleana has pitched in the Dominican Republic, Curaçao, Italy and Germany and for the Curaçao national team.

He was born in the mainland Netherlands, then moved to Bonaire in the Netherlands Antilles when he was a year old. He later moved to Curaçao to further his baseball training. [1] He was signed by the Cincinnati Reds in 2014. [2] He had a save and a 1.66 ERA in 11 games for the 2015 DSL Rojos and had a 2.70 ERA in three games for them in '16.

Soleana then joined the Groot Kwartier Stars in Curaçao. [3] He was 4-2 with a 2.66 ERA for Hotsand Macerta in the Italian Serie A2 in 2018. [4] He pitched for Curaçao in the 2019 World Port Tournament, allowing three runs (one earned) in 5 1/3 IP. He tied for 5th in appearances (3). [5] He signed in Germany for 2021, playing for the Mannheim Tornadoes. He had a 6-1, 4.24 record. He tied Marcel Giraud, Christian Pedrol and Ross Vance for 4th in the Bundesliga-1 South in wins though his 39 walks were second (14 behind Giraud). [6]

He was 1-0 with a 2.33 ERA in the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week and got the stunning win as Curaçao topped the USA, beating the Braves' 2023 2nd-round pick Cade Kuehler. [7] In the 2022 Caribbean Baseball Cup, he was 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA, losing a close game to the US Virgin Islands. [8] Curaçao advanced to the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, their first Central American and Caribbean Games since breaking off politically from the other Antilles.

A Curaçao team was invited to the 2023 Caribbean Series, the first Caribbean Series appearance for the island. He allowed two runs (one earned) in 2 2/3 IP in extra innings against the Vaqueros de Montería but took the loss to Carlos Diaz when Fabián Pertuz homered in the 13th. It was the first loss for his WildCats KJ74 after they won their first two. In the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, he debuted against Venezuela. Relieving Ruderly Manuel in the 5th with the game scoreless, he had a rough entry. Junnell Ledezma reached on an error, Michael Chirinos laid down a bunt hit and Wuilman Velasquez walked. He escaped the jam by striking out Derwin Barreto and getting César Ortega to hit into a double play. After his team scored four in the top of the 6th, he was replaced by Chris Koeiman and got the win over Carlos Valero. He also pitched shutout ball against Puerto Rico (2 2/3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K). Only Manuel wound up with more innings and a zero ERA for the team. [9] He returned to Germany, allowing four runs (two earned) in 4 2/3 IP for the Guggenberger Legionäre. [10]
