Derwin Barreto peaked at AA and has been on the Venezuelan national team.
Barreto was signed by Texas Rangers scout Jhonny Gomez at age 16. [1] He debuted as a middle infielder with the DSL Rangers 2 in 2018, hitting .224/.371/.345 and stealing 9 bases in 13 tries. Coming stateside the next year, he hit .281/.373/.484 in 18 games for the AZL Rangers and .234/.331/.308 in 30 for the Spokane Indians. After the 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic, he played in 2021 with the ACL Rangers (.324/.490/.514 in 13 G), Hickory Crawdads (.150/.292/.150 in 19 G) and Frisco RoughRiders (2 for 22). The utility infielder ended his time in the Rangers chain with the 2022 Down East Wood Ducks (.203/.361/.344 in 22 G) and ACL Rangers (1 for 11, 2 BB).
He then played for Venezuela in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. [2]
