Biographical Information[edit]

Byeong-heon Lee has pitched in the KBO and for the South Korean national team.

Lee was drafted by the Doosan Bears in the first round of the 2022 KBO draft, and he missed most of the '22 season because he underwent Tommy John surgery; he had a 3.60 ERA in 9 games with the big club. Lee then notched 5 holds with a 4.67 ERA in 36 appearances in 2023 [1] He then made South Korea's young club for the 2023 Asian Championship. He relieved Kang-hoon Woo in the 6th inning of their opener against host Taiwan and he struck out Chia-Hsiang Sung and Namoh Iyang. He then plunked Chih-Cheng Chiu, Hsiao-Yun Chen bunted and Dong-hyeok Kim succeeded him. He then relieved Hyeon-gon Ryu against the State of Palestine, and he pitched a shutout inning with a strikeout against Charles Haddad. He started against Japan, and he struck out 2 in the first two innings. Lee gave up a pair of singles to Yukiya Yano and Hiroki Nakagawa, then he fanned Motoki Mukoyama and retired Masashi Maruyama. However, he then walked Ryosuke Aizawa, and Ryuga Ihara drove in 2 runs with a single; Woo took over for him. Korea later beat the Philippines with a 7-0 score to win Bronze. [2]

The Seoul native broke out in 2024, and he notched 22 holds with a 2.89 ERA in 77 appearances. He was the youngest southpaw to collect 20 holds in Bears history. Lee also led the league in appearances, and he was 6th in holds (between Tae-hun Kim and Min Kim).
