Biographical Information[edit]

Dong-hyeok Kim has pitched in the KBO and for the South Korean national team.

Kim was drafted by the Kiwoom Heroes in the 3rd round of the 2020 KBO draft, and he had a 5.19 ERA in 8 games in 2020. He had a 5.16 ERA in 40 games in 2021, and he notched 3 holds with a 2.73 ERA in 24 relief outings in 2022. He gave up two singles with a run allowed in 2022 Korean Series Game 1, and he surrendered a 2-run shot to Juan Lagares in Game 3; the SSG Landers beat the Heroes in 6 games. He struggled in 2023, and his ERA rose to 7.32 in 35 relief outings. [1]

The Seoul native then made South Korea's young club for the 2023 Asian Championship. He relieved Byeong-heon Lee in the 7th inning of their opener against host Taiwan, and he struck out Cheng-Fei Lin to end the inning. He retired Chi-Hung Liu in the next inning, and Hyeon-su Jeong replaced him. Kim then relieved Lee in the 4th inning against the State of Palestine. Tariq Suboh reached base due to an error first, and Kim gave a single to Ibrahim Shalabi. He then forced Dylan Ahmad to ground into a double play, but Suboh still got their only score of the game. Kim retired Dylan Renard to end the inning. In the Bronze Medal Game, he started against the Philippines, and he pitched 5 shutout innings with 4 strikeouts. Korea beat their opponent with a 7-0 score and won Bronze. [2]

Kim struggled again in 2024, and he had a 6.85 ERA in 17 appearances. He then missed the next season due to military service.
