Armstrong State University was known as Armstrong State College until 1996 and Armstrong Atlantic State University until 2014. In 2017 Armstrong was consolidated into Georgia Southern University. As part of the consolidation, Armstrong State's athletics programs were discontinued at the end of the 2016-2017 school year.
