Biographical Information[edit]
Puerto Rican-born Carlos Cardoza never played professional baseball. He moved to the United States at a young age and went to high school in Georgia before continuing on to college. He briefly attended Georgia State University before tranferring to a smaller program at Armstrong State University. In college, he was an undersized infielder.
Cardoza began his coaching career as the head coach for the Decatur High School Bulldogs in 2014-2015. After the high school season ended he joined the Texas Rangers organization. He spent the month of June as a coach for a DSL Rangers team before becoming manager of the Rangers' new international signings in the Tricky League. The Tricky League is a development league designed for new players to gain playing experience the year they are signed as free agents. Most will play for a Dominican Summer League team the following season.
After this initiation into professional baseball, Cardoza managed the DSL Rangers 2 from 2016 to 2018 and then the AZL Rangers in 2019. He was slated to manage the Hickory Crawdads in 2020 before the season was wiped out by the Coronavirus pandemic. In 2021 he was put in charge of the Down East Wood Ducks in the Low-A East. Cardoza moved up a level in 2022 as manager of the Crawdads. After the 2022 season Cardoza coached the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League. He took another step up the minor league ladder as manager of the Frisco RoughRiders in 2023. After the season Cardoza managed the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League and then was a bench coach for the Cangrejeros de Santurce in the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League. He returned to Frisco in 2024.
His younger brother, who goes under the name Esteban Cardoza-Oquendo, has played college baseball.
