Biographical Information[edit]

Larry Owens played briefly in the minors then became a coach.

Owens was 7-0 with a 2.88 ERA as a college senior. The Atlanta Braves took him in the 27th round of the 1990 amateur draft and he went 1-1 with a 7.11 ERA in four games for the Pulaski Braves. Owens then went into coaching. He coached at Wabash Valley Junior College (1994-1995), Southwest Missouri State (1995), the University of Louisville (1996-1997} and Austin Peay University (1998-1999). From 2000-2004, he was pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Memphis.

Returning to the pro ranks after a 15-year absence, Owens was pitching coach of the 2005 San Diego Surf Dawgs. He was a scout for the Boston Red Sox in 2006, then was pitching coach for the Kannapolis Intimidators from 2007-2010. He moved to the Bristol White Sox in 2011-2013.

Owens became head coach at Bellarmine University in 2014, remaining through 2022 and setting the school career record for wins.
