Biographical Information

Alonzo Harris is an outfielder who started playing in the New York Mets minor league system in 2007.

Drafted by the Mets in the 39th round of the 2007 amateur draft out of high school (the scout was Benny Latino), Harris began his professional career the following season. With the GCL Mets in 2008, Harris batted .308/.379/.510 with five home runs, seven stolen bases and 23 runs scored in 33 games. He tied for seventh in the Gulf Coast League in home runs.

In 2009, he played for the Kingsport Mets (58 G, .273/.321/.447, 10 HR, 15 SB) and Savannah Sand Gnats (7 G, .200/.259/.200) and hit .266/.316/.424 with 52 runs scored, 10 home runs, 42 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 65 games. He led the Appalachian League in at-bats (253), finished second in runs scored (his 49 trailing only Mycal Jones' 50), tied for fourth in triples (5), tied Jeff Flagg and Tobias Streich for second in home runs (behind Josmil Pinto) and was third in plate appearances (276, behind Jones and Chris Herrmann).

Playing for Savannah again in 2010, Harris hit .224/.270/.342 with five home runs, 42 RBI, 18 stolen bases (in 25 tries) and 90 strikeouts in 105 games. He made 21 errors at second base, his last season there before moving to the outfield. With Savannah again in 2011, Harris improved, hitting .270/.342/.612 with 15 stolen bases in 21 tries over 109 games. He was with the St. Lucie Mets in 2012 and hit .287/.354/.424 with eight home runs, seven triples, 74 runs scored, 42 RBI and 40 stolen bases (caught only 11 times) in 116 games. He was third in the Florida State League in steals (behind John Andreoli and Reggie Keen), fifth in runs and tied for 7th in triples. He was named St. Lucie's MVP. Among Mets farmhands, he tied Fred Lewis for second in triples (one behind Matt den Dekker) and led in steals.

He began 2013 with the Binghamton Mets, but hit only .218/.285/.305 with 25 steals in 101 games there. He joined the Miami Marlins organization for 2014, but after hitting only .094/.216/.188 in 11 games with the Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads, he was released. Latching on with the independent New Jersey Jackals, he hit .290/.354/.431 with 34 steals in 89 games. In 2015, he was with the independent St. Paul Saints, batting .298/.339/.466 with 15 home runs, 62 RBI and 75 runs - all career highs to that point - along with 39 steals. He did even better with St. Paul in 2016, hitting .307/.352/.488 with 15 home runs, 58 RBI and 43 stolen bases in 93 games. With the York Revolution in 2017, Harris hit .315/.381/.530 with 23 home runs, 73 RBI and 31 stolen bases in 114 games. He returned to the Revolution in 2018, hitting .304/.390/.406 with 14 stolen bases in 36 games. He also played for the Tigres de Quintana Roo, appearing in 70 games and hitting 11 home runs with 25 RBI, 21 steals and 67 runs scored. With the Guerreros de Oaxaca in 2019, Harris hit .343/.431/.691 with 39 home runs, 117 RBI, 45 stolen bases and 131 runs scored in 119 games. He played for the independent St. Paul Saints in 2020, hitting .246/.320/.419 with 7 home runs and 18 RBI in 45 games. He was back with Oaxaca in 2021, hitting .332/.426/.473 with 6 home runs 31 RBI and 16 steals in 62 games. With the Tecolotes de Dos Laredos in 2022, he hit .198/.307/.349 with 4 home runs and 14 RBI in 44 games. He returned with Dos Laredos in 2023, slashing .276/.351/.377 with 5 home runs, 30 RBI and 26 stolen bases in 84 games. He eclipsed 500 career stolen bases at all levels in 2023.

Harris has also played in the Venezuelan Winter League, Mexican Pacific Winter League and Arizona Fall League.
