History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
Before the season, the 1985 Chicago White Sox traded away their top pitcher in a move fans decried. The club sent LaMarr Hoyt to the San Diego Padres for pitchers Tim Lollar and Bill Long, utility man Luis Salazar, and prospect Ozzie Guillen. Hoyt went 16-8 with the Padres in 1985 and was an All-Star, adding fuel to the fans' ire. However, the move paid long-term dividends for the Sox, as slick-fielding shorstop Guillen went on to win the 1985 American League Rookie of the Year Award and became a fixture with the club for over a decade.
