History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 1962 Los Angeles Angels played their second season at the brand new ballpark built by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dodger Stadium - which is called "Chavez Ravine" when the Angels play here. This arrangement will last for three seasons, until Anaheim Stadium is inaugurated, and represents a marked improvement over Wrigley Field, which was the team's home in their inaugural season in 1961. The Dodgers had the privilege of inaugurating the new ballpark on April 10th, while the Angels' first home game was played on April 17th, a 5-3 loss to the Kansas City Athletics.
The Angels took a huge step forward in their second season: after going 72-91 in their first year, they finished in 3rd place in the American League with a winning record of 86-76. That still put them 10 games behind the pennant-winning New York Yankees but it was still a remarkable achievement for such a young franchise.
