Biographical Information[edit]

Gene Leek shared playing time at third base with veteran Eddie Yost on the expansion Los Angeles Angels in 1961. Leek hit .226 while Yost hit .202.

Gene attended Herbert Hoover High School (San Diego), a school that Ted Williams had attended before him. Leek was at the University of Arizona in 1958, signed with the Cleveland Indians before the 1959 season, and made his major league debut in April 1959.

In addition to his three partial years in the majors, Gene also had seven seasons in the minors. He had a high of 18 home runs with the Mobile Bears in 1960, twice the number of anyone else on the team.
