The University of Mount Olive was formerly a two-year school named Mount Allen Junior College from 1951 to 1956, Mount Olive Junior College from 1956-1970, and Mount Olive College from 1970 to 2013. In 1986, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools officially accredited Mount Olive College as a four-year institution to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. It became a full university in 2013.
