Ryan Kussmaul has pitched in the minor leagues.

Kussmaul was picked by the Florida Marlins in the 42nd round of the 2006 amateur draft but opted for college. He was 5-2 with a save and a 3.61 ERA for Mount Olive College in 2009, allowing only 28 hits in 47 1/3 IP. He was named All-Conference Carolinas. Undrafted out of college, he signed with the Southern Illinois Miners and was 4-1 with a 2.57 ERA, 41 K and 24 hits in 35 innings that summer. Returning to the Miners in 2010, he went 3-1 with a 2.68 ERA and a WHIP under 1. The Chicago White Sox then signed him as a free agent; the scout was J.J. Lally. He finished the year with the Kannapolis Intimidators (5 H, 3 BB, 17 K, 2 R in 15 IP; Sv) and the Winston-Salem Dash (1-0, Sv, 4.15 in 8 2/3 IP). In 2011, he was back with the Dash, going 3-1 with 6 saves, 6 holds and a 2.51 ERA. He struck out 88 in 57 1/3 innings, had a .94 WHIP and allowed a .163 average only. He led the Carolina League in strikeouts per innings and was third in the affiliated minors behind Chris Manno and Jonathan Arias. In the winter, he tossed 8 1/3 innings for the Venados de Mazatlan (6 H, 13 K, 3 R) in the Mexican League, as well as 4 1/3 shutout innings for the Indios de Mayagüez (3 H, 7 K, 1 Win, 1 Hold) in the Puerto Rican League season. He remained for the playoffs as he accumulated 10 1/3 shutout innings for the Indios (4H, 10K, 3 Wins, 3 Holds) He remained with the club for the 2012 Caribbean Series. (1.2 IP, 0 H, 1K, 2 Holds)
