Biographical Information[edit]
Willi Martin was a pitcher at Liberty University for three years before transferring to the University of Mount Olive where he was a first baseman and designated hitter. Academically, Martin earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and later a master's degree in Sport and Fitness Administration/Management.
Martin played professionally from 2015-2017 in the independent leagues, mostly with three teams in the Frontier League. He ended his playing career in 2017 with the Utica Unicorns of the United Shore Professional Baseball League. He spent the next two years with the Unicorns as an assistant manager under manager Jim Essian.
In 2020 the St. Louis Cardinals hired Martin as an assistant coach with the Springfield Cardinals and as a professional scout. Due to the COVID-19 induced minor league shutdown that year, his work was considerably curtailed. Martin returned to the United Shore League in 2021 as the league's Director of Player Development.
The Cardinals brought Martin aboard once again as the hitting coach for the Peoria Chiefs in 2022 and Palm Beach Cardinals in 2023-2024.
