Biographical Information

Tsz-Chin Dora Lau has competed in international tournaments in three decades.

Lau debuted for the Hong Kong women's national team in the 2006 Women's Baseball World Cup at age 14. She was back with them for the 2010 Women's Baseball World Cup and got their only hit in their opening loss to Taiwan. In the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup, she was a C/SS/DH and hit .333/.524/.333 with seven runs in six games; she had four runs, four RBI, three walks and three steals in their win over the Netherlands and fielded .955. She led her team in runs, tying Bronwyn Gell and Nicole Luchanski for 5th in the Cup. She tied for second with six walks, two behind Iori Miura.

By the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup, she hit .357/.444/.571 with four steals and four runs in six games. She was 0-1 with a 7.00 ERA, losing to Kim McMillan and Australia. She fielded .960, starting at SS. She tied for 7th with 3 double plays turned. Among Hong Kong's regulars, only Lok-Hang Hui had a better OPS. The 2017 Women's Baseball Asian Cup was the first Women's Baseball Asian Cup and she drew the first walk in the history of the event, from Azra Farooq of Pakistan. She finished the event with a batting line of .438/.471/.500 with four runs in five games, stealing six bases in six tries. She fielded .842 and worked 1/3 of a shutout inning. She was 6th in average (between Chia-Hui Yang and Janice Chi-Kay Lau), tied for 4th in hits, 8th in slugging (between Hsing-Yeh Tsai, 7th in OBP and tied Yu-Ying Hsieh for 3rd in steals.

Lau had 3 of Hong Kong's 5 hits in a loss to Australia in the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup and 3 of their six runs against Puerto Rico. She hit .474/.583/.684 with 7 runs and 7 steals (not caught) in 8 games, fielding .881 (mostly at SS) but struggling on the mound (8 R, 7 ER, 6 BB in 3 IP). She tied Tomoni Nakada for third in steals (behind Arianna Garcia and Esther Maliepaard) and led in doubles (4). She led Hong Kong in just about every offensive department. In 2020, she was on the board of the Hong Kong Baseball Association, running women's baseball development.

In 2022, she played for Britain's Sheffield Bruins, a men's team in Britain's top league. She was 2 for 12 with 8 walks, 3 steals and 3 runs, fielding .800 and allowing an unearned run in 1/3 IP. She was not the only lady on the team, which also had Kelly Wright. When Britain formed their first women's national team, for the 2022 European Women's Championship, the veteran started at short for them. In their opener, she hit second. She was 3 for 8 with 3 walks, 2 times plunked, two steals, six runs and four RBI in their three games, fielding .800. She had a 5.25 ERA but took the loss in a game that would have sent them to the title game had they won, relieving Oona Ylinen with a 12-12 tie in the bottom of the 7th against eventual champion France. She hit Emma Patry, who stole and went to third on a throwing error. She walked Marjorie Brunel then intentionally walked Yasmine Derbal before Léna Sellam hit the game-ending single. She tied Karolína Blažková and Tereza Stejspalová for 6th in runs (only Laura Hirai had more for the Brits), tied for 7th in RBI, tied Sascha Egas for 2nd in double plays turned (2) and tied for 4th in errors (4).
