2019 Women's Baseball Asian Cup
The 2019 Women's Baseball Asian Cup is being held from November 10-November 15, 2019 in Zhongshan. It is the second Women's Baseball Asian Cup and is a qualifier for the 2020 Women's Baseball World Cup. People's Republic of China and Philippines made their debuts as the field expanded from 6 teams to 8.
November 10[edit]
- Japan 16, India 0. Shion Kameda and Reina Tokita combine on a four-inning perfecto to beat Reshma Shivaji Punekar. 2B Rio Obitsu scores 3 and drives in a pair, while CF Nanako Fujiwara goes 3 for 3 with 3 runs.
- Philippines 12, Hong Kong 3. The Philippines women's team makes a fine international debut. They fall behind 3-0 after 4 but then score 12 unanswered runs. SS Esmeralda Macapagal Tayag and 3B Hell Ghene Cagud Camral each have four hits, Macapagal scoring three runs and 1B Ma. Charlotte Pirante Sales driving in four with two triples and a single. Clariz Padernal Palma goes the distance for the win over Yik-Shan Hung. C Chee-Ar Lui has two hits for Hong Kong.
- Chinese Taipei 12, South Korea 2. LF Chi Tseng drove in six while Chiao-Yun Huang went the distance in a mercy rule five-inning win. DH Bit-na Lee drove in both Koreans runs while Hye-min Jung took the loss.
- People's Republic of China 17, Pakistan 2. 1B Kexin Liu scored three times as China also had an impressive debut, with Yiran Shang getting the win over Ayesha Kiran. CF/P Bakhtawar Iqbal was 2 for 2 for Pakistan.
November 11[edit]
- Philippines 14, South Korea 7. RF Jojielyn Birsoto Lin drove in four and LF Jennifer Dayto Singh scored three as the Philippines went to 2-0. SS Jane Uh was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI for South Korea. Clariz Padernal Palma went to 2-0 while Min-sung Park took the loss. It was 5-4 South Korea after six before the Philippines staged a last-inning ten-run rally.
- Japan 38, Pakistan 0. Kana Onodera and Kagura Kitakawa combine on a four-inning mercy rule perfect game. Mehvish Gulham gives up 14 hits, 4 walks and 18 runs in the first while retiring only one batter. DH Sano Enomoto and RF Natsuki Yonetani each score six runs, 2B Seki Momoko goes 6 for 6 and LF Nagisa Murata drives in five.
- Chinese Taipei 12, Hong Kong 0. Fang-Yi Lin and Li-Chung Huang combine on a three-hitter to beat Hong Kong, Man-Wai Bonnie Chan taking the loss. RF Shih-Mei Shu drives in four.
- People's Republic of China 24, India 16. China wins a slugfest, Yiran Shang going to 2-0 while 2B Sixuan Liu drives in eight runs and RF Xinxin Li is a triple shy of a cycle, driving in five. P/3B Lulu Zhang scores five. Reshma Shivaji Punekar takes the loss. SS Swetasini Sabar scores four runs and steals in five bases.
November 12[edit]
- Chinese Taipei 15, Philippines 0. The Philippines takes its first loss ever following their 2-0 start as Wen-Ching Hsieh and Yu-Ping Hsu combine on a 3-hitter to beat Alaiza Montejo Talisik. CF/C Yu-Chan Tu drives in 3.
- South Korea 19, Hong Kong 18. After a series of mismatches, the event's first one-run game is a high-scoring affair. 1B Jung-hee Kung goes 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBI for South Korea while Yeo-nu Choe gets the win with one of the game's few scoreless innings. Yik-Shan Hung took the loss while C Chee-Ar Lui drove in five.
- India 29, Pakistan 1. India romps past Pakistan as Reshma Shivaji Punekar pitches a four-inning mercy rule no-hitter. Minahl Ahmed took the defeat. SS Swetasini Sabar stole six bases and was one of four Indians to score four runs.
- Japan 20, People's Republic of China 0. China took its first loss, while Japanese hurlers gave up their first hits. Chiharu Aida got the win, Jiaxin Li the loss. C Sano Enomoto and LF Nagisa Murata both hit grand slams.
November 13[edit]
- South Korea 4, India 1. South Korea starts the consolation round with a wine behind 3-hit pitching by Hyer-yeon Won and Hye-min Jung. SS Jane Uh and 1B Jung-hee Kang each get two hits. Reshma Shivaji Punekar gets the loss the day after her no-hitter.
- Philippines 6, People's Republic of China 2. The two newcomers square off and Nicole Lyn Estante allows two hits in six innings for the win over Lulu Zhang. C Ivy Mhel Capistrano scores twice and drives in a pair.
- Hong Kong 21, Pakistan 1. Pakistan takes another mercy rule loss, the decision going to Ayesha Kiran, who retires neither of the batters she faces. Yin-Wah Wong gets the win on a combined one-hitter with Lucci Lucee Liyeung and Debby Su-Yee Mak. 1B Wing-Ki Mui drives in 5 and falls a single short of a cycle.
- Japan 16, Chinese Taipei 1. Japan's top two squareo ff and Japan shows they're still far ahead in a rout. Kagura Kitazawa gets the win while SS Mayano Ishigaki drives in six. Fang-Yi Lin is handed the loss. LF Chi Tseng drives in 3B Chih-Hsuan Sung with the lone run for Taiwan.
November 14[edit]
- Hong Kong 9, India 1. Reshma Shivaji Punekar again goes the distance, this time losing to Ting Fung and Hong Kong. Tsz-Wai Ho and Man-Wai Bonnie Chan team with Fung on a two-hitter, 3B Geeta Bhuyan getting both Indian hits as well as two walks. 1B Wing-Ki Mui stars again, doubling twice and driving in three.
- Japan 18, Philippines 2. The Philippine becomes the first team to score twice against Japan, which again wins in a four-inning mercy rule decision, Reina Tokita getting the victory against Jennifer Dayto Singh (who allows 7 runs in 1/3 IP). RF Nicole Lyn Estante drives in one Philippines run and scores the other, while 3B Rino Kudoh and SS Kanoko Takiishi each drive in four for Japan.
- South Korea 26, Pakistan 0. Pakistan gets no-hit for the third time in five games, this time by Hyeon-hye Kwon, who allows only one walk (to SS Ayesha Kiran) in four innings in the mercy rule win. 3B Su-jeong Shin goes 4 for 4 with 3 runs, 4 RBI, a triple and a homer while SS Jane Uh homers in both of her at-bats. Bakhtawar Iqfal allows 26 hits in her three innings.
- Chinese Taipei 15, People's Republic of China 0. Wen-Ching Hsieh throws a two-hitter while 1B Chiao-Yun Huang goes 2 for 2 with a run and two RBI to lead a balanced offense. Lulu Zhang took the loss.
November 15[edit]
- Gold Medal Game: Japan 2, Chinese Taipei 1. Yu-Ying Hsieh mostly shut down Japan's high-powered offense, but 2B/1B Rio Obitsu drove in CF Nanako Fujiwara and LF Hinano Yamanaka in the 3rd. In the 4th, Taiwan scored off Kana Onodera when Hsieh drove home 3B Chih-Hsuan Sung. Kaede Sagawa saved it with two hitless innings.
- Bronze Medal Game: Philippines 11, People's Republic of China 1. Clariz Padernal Palma put on another fine pitching display as the two first-time entrants faced off for Bronze. 1B Ma. Charlotte P Salas drove in four runs. Lulu Zhang had a complete-game loss. LF Yang Li drove in 2B Sixuan Li with the only Chinese run.
