Biographical Information[edit]
Shih-Yun Lee has caught for the Taiwanese women's national team for almost a decade (through 2019).
Lee was with Taiwan for the 2010 Women's Baseball World Cup. [1] In the 2012 Women's Baseball World Cup, she hit .278/.391/.278 with 4 runs in 9 games as Taiwan's main backstop; she stole 3 bases in 4 tries, fielded .950 and allowed 20 steals in 23 attempts. Only Yung-Hsin Cheng had more swipes for Taiwan though only Claudia Kranendonk allowed more steals in the Cup. [2] She batted .200/.333/.200 in the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup, made no errors and allowed 13 steals in 14 attempts. Again, only Kranendonk gave up more steals. [3] She was 0 for 9 with 2 walks and 3 runs in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup but got Taiwan's lone run against the US's Marti Sementelli. She split catching with Yu-Chen Hsu that event. [4]
In the 2017 Women's Baseball Asian Cup, she was 5 for 8 with 5 runs while going 4-for-4 in steals for the Silver Medalists but Iram Khalid beat her out for All-Star catcher. She had a better average than any of the qualifiers, as Wai-Yee Vivien Cheung hit .583. [5] Lee remained very productive at the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, hitting .533/.677/.533 as Taiwan had their best finish yet in a Women's Baseball World Cup (Silver). She had 16 putouts, 3 assists and no errors and was catching runners better (8 SB, 3 CS). She again did not qualify for the batting title; among qualifiers, only Janiliz Rivera and Megan Baltzell had better averages and only Rivera a better OBP. In the Gold Medal Game, she was 0 for 1 and was hit by a Ayami Sato pitch before being replaced by Chi Lin in a 6-0 loss to Japan. She was named the All-Star catcher that time. [6]
