Biographical Information

Megan Baltzell has starred for the USA women's national team.

Baltzell hit 76 homers as a college softball player, 10th in NCAA history, and twice was Big South Conference Player of the Year. Returning to baseball, her sport as a child, she hit .440/.462/.680 with 13 RBI, 8 runs and 5 steals in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup. Her two-run homer off Yu-Chen Hsu was key in the US's 2-1 win over Taiwan. She tied Yurika Arisaka and Tamara Holmes for the tourney lead with one homer. She tied for 7th in runs, tied for 2nd in hits (3 behind Holmes), tied for 3rd in doubles (3, one behind Holmes and Olivia Bannon), tied Sascha Egas for the lead in RBI, tied Egas for 3rd in total bases (16) and missed the top 10 in steals by one. Despite that, the US finished a disappointing 7th. She did not make the tourney All-Star outfield as Chia-Wen Shen, Brittany Gomez and Tammy McMillan made it.

She was a firefighter-in-training as of 2017. She almost missed the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup due to struggles in the team trials, but was a late injury replacement. In the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, she had 3 RBI against Puerto Rico and 3 runs and 4 RBI against the Netherlands. She again hit the first homer of a Women's Baseball World Cup when she took Venezuela's Kisbel Vizcaya deep. She deprived Japan's Ayami Sato of a no-hitter when she singled with one out left to go. She then had three hits (including a homer off Anne-Sophie Lavallée) in a victory over rival Canada. The teams met again in the Bronze Medal Game and Canada avoided pitching to her, with three intentional walks (she was 0 for 2 with a run) in a 8-5 loss. She hit .500/.606/.885 with 10 runs and 11 RBI in 9 games; splitting time between DH and RF, she had five putouts, one assist and no errors. She was among the event leaders in runs (tied Chelsea Forkin for 5th), hits (13, 2nd, two behind Taylah Welch), doubles (4, tied for 2nd, one behind Welch), homers (1st), extra-base hits (6, tied for 1st with Welch), RBI (2nd, one behind Iori Miura), total bases (23, tied Welch for 1st), average (tied Shih-Yun Lee for 4th), slugging (2nd, .056 behind Forkin), OPS (2nd, 117 behind Forkin) and walks (7, tied for 2nd, 4 behind So-yeon Kim). She was named the All-World DH; the only other American named was pitcher Meggie Meidlinger. To that point, she was the career home run leader in Women's Baseball World Cup annals at three.

She hit .563/.696/1.125 with 14 RBI, 8 runs and 2 homers in six games in the 2019 COPABE Women's Pan-American Championship and was named the All-Tournament right fielder.
