Biographical Information[edit]

Brittany Gomez has starred for the USA women's national team.

She was three times All-Texas in high school in softball and set Iowa State softball records for steals and runs in a season while a freshman. By her sophomore year, she was the school's first 50-steal player. She set a school record for hits as a junior and led the Big 12 Conference in average. [1] She then switched to baseball for the 2015 Pan American Games, starting in center for the US. She hit .267/.353/.400 with three runs and four RBI in five games, handling five putouts and one assist while making no errors. The US won the Gold. [2]

As a senior, she was All-Big 12, finishing as Iowa State's career leader in hits, average (.396) and steals. [3] Back with the US for the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup, scoring five runs against Pakistan and three versus India. She hit .556/.714/.778 with 14 runs, 5 RBI and 10 walks in 8 games. She stole five bases in five tries and had four putouts, one assist and one error. She led the tournament in runs (two ahead of teammate Malaika Underwood), tied for second with ten hits (3 behind Tamara Holmes), tied Chia-Wen Shen and Yuki Kawabata for 5th in total bases (14), tied Miki Atsugase for the most walks, was second in average (.166 behind Holmes), was 3rd in OBP (after Holmes and Ayumi Terabe), was 3rd in slugging (after Holmes and Underwood) and was second to Holmes in OPS. She joined Shen and Tammy McMillan as the All-World outfielders; Holmes was the only other US player picked for the team. [4]

In the 2018 Women's Baseball World Cup, her numbers were down. She started strong with three walks and three runs against Puerto Rico but had three walks and four runs in the other eight games. She finished at .182/.400/.182 and did not attempt a steal. On defense, she had nine putouts, an assist and no errors. She tied for 8th in walks. [5]
