Biographical Information[edit]

Yu-Chen Hsu pitched for the Taiwanese women's national team.

She debuted in the 2014 Women's Baseball World Cup, losing to Sarah Hudek and Team USA, allowing seven hits, two walks and seven runs (six earned) in 4 1/3 IP. She then played left field for a few games. Against the Netherlands, her sixth-inning double off Loes Asmus scored Shih-Yun Lee to tie it at two then scored the winner on a Yu-Yin Hsieh sacrifice fly a couple batters later. She had three runs and three RBI in a win over Hong Kong. She got the nod on the hill in the 5th/6th place game against Venezuela, allowing seven hits but no runs in seven innings to beat Josefina Cumana, 4-0; she walked two and fanned two. She finished the event at 1-1, 3.71 with a .545/.615/.636 batting line, five runs and five RBI. She did not play enough to finish among the rate stat leaders for hitters. She was 5th in the Cup in innings, between Asmus and Autumn Mills. [1]

Hsu was a workhorse in the 2016 Women's Baseball World Cup; she barely played the field this time, going 1-for-3 with a run and a RBI. She got the win over Australia and Jacinda Barclay, then was outdueled 2-1 by Marti Sementelli and the USA. She allowed just four hits in a complete game, but one was a two-run smash by Megan Baltzell. She next beat Yu-ka Bae and South Korea, then lost another duel, this one 2-0 to Cumana in a rematch of 2014. She threw one shutout inning against Canada. In the Bronze Medal Game, she again faced Venezuela. She held a 3-0 lead with a one-hitter entering the 7th and final inning but she hit Ofelia Arrieche, walked Dailys Gimenez, got Esquia Rengel on a grounder then allowed a RBI single to Maigleth Torres. After she hit Astrid Rodriguez, she made an error on a grounder by Sor Brito to make it 3-2. She switched spots with 1B Chiao-Yun Huang but a single gave her two more runs allowed and the loss. She thus was 2-3 with a 1.66 ERA in six games, working 25 1/3 IP. Taiwan's other pitchers only combined for 10 1/3 IP and 1-1 record! She was among the tournament leaders in wins (tied for second, one behind Ayami Sato), losses (tied Chittari Chandu Priya for second, one behind Mariam Shafiq), games pitched (1st), games started (1st), innings (1st, 2 1/3 ahead of Mayumis Solano), hits allowed (19, 8th) and walks (13, tied Asmus for second, two behind Priya). Despite all that work, she still did not make the top 10 in runs or earned runs allowed. Being more efficient, she was also not first in batters faced, being third behind Solano and Priya. [2]

She then was pitching coach for China in the 2023 Women's Baseball Asian Cup. [3]
