Tony was undrafted out of Arizona. He hit .261/.418/.366 for the 1979 Santa Clara Padres, a co-op team, with 85 walks and 10 steals in 11 tries. He fielded only .874 with 34 errors in 78 games at 3B and also played outfield, shortstop and second base. He was 10th in the California League in walks but led the league's third basemen in errors. He split 1980 between the Pittsburgh Pirates' Salem Pirates (.273/.348/.409 in 70 G) and Buffalo Bisons (.274/.402/.353 in 57 G), with 80 runs scored and 70 walks. He was 4th in the Bucco chain in walks (between Mike Quade and Brent Hillenga) and tied Junior Ortiz for 4th in runs.
As a 3B-OF for Buffalo in 1981, he hit a solid .272/.383/.465 with 18 homers, 80 walks and 70 runs. He was one home run shy of making the top 10 in the Eastern League, was 5th in walks (between Gary Redus and Rod Hobbs), ranked 8th in OBP (between Mike Ibarra and Vincent Bienek), was 9th in slugging (between Al Chambers and Alejandro Sanchez) and was 7th in OPS (between Gene Gentile and Mike Brown). In the Pittsburgh system, he tied Trench Davis for 7th in runs, was 5th in homers (between Bubba Holland and Willie Horton), was 10th in RBI (64) and was second to Rusty Torres in walks.
In 1982, Incaviglia repeated at Buffalo despite his '81 success. He slumped to .252/.349/.419, now primarily as an outfielder; he hit 11 homers in 313 at-bats. He ended his career with the San Diego Padres' Beaumont Golden Gators, batting .308/.385/.477 in 36 games in 1983.
