Biographical Information[edit]

Robin Schel has pitched in the Hoofdklasse.

He was 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA in the 2011 European Junior Championship, helping the Netherlands to a title; he beat the #2 Czechs and #3 Italians. He led the event in ERA, .09 ahead of Nikita Lobanov, tied Robertas Vilimas for 7th in strikeouts and tied Ian Delemarre, Artem Lopata and Daniel Vítek for the most wins. [1] He made his Hoofdklasse debut in 2011, going 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA. In 2012, he improved to 1-3, 5.51. He pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings in 2013 and had a 4.01 ERA in 2014.

Schel moved to the Amsterdam Pirates. He pitched two shutout innings in the 2015 European Cup. [2] He had a 2.55 ERA in the 2015 Hoofdklasse though he walked 14 in 17 2/3 IP but allowed only 9 hits. He was on Team Europe in the Asia Winter Baseball League. [3] He was 1-0 with a 1.12 ERA in the 2016 European Champions Cup, beating Jan Tomek and Buchbinder Legionäre Regensburg. The Pirates won their first European Cup. He was 10th in ERA, was 5th in opponent average (.130, between Tommaso Cherubini and Yoimer Camacho) and tied Raúl Rivero for 7th in innings. [4] In the 2016 Hoofdklasse, he was 3-2 with a 4.47 ERA. He struggled in the 2016 Holland Series, losing Game 2 to Neptunus and Orlando Yntema and Game 3 to Diegomar Markwell. He had a 11.12 ERA, leading the Series in losses and having the highest ERA of any qualifier. [5]

The lefty allowed four run in three innings in the 2017 European Champions Cup, losing to Bologna and Rivero. [6] He improved to 7-1, 3.09 in the 2017 Hoofdklasse. He was among the leaders in ERA (8th, between Markwell and Chris Pfau), opponent average (8th), strikeouts (41, 8th) and wins (5th, between Kevin Heijstek and Delemarre). [7] He allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in Game 3 of the 2017 Holland Series in a no-decision. He led the Series in ERA for a big improvement from '16. He also allowed the lowest average (.125, .028 ahead of legendary Rob Cordemans) and was 6th in IP (between Loek van Mil and Kevin Kelly). [8]

He was roughed up by Draci Brno in the 2018 European Champions Cup, losing to Wes Roemer; he allowed nine hits, four walks and five runs (all earned) in 3 1/3 IP. Only Kyle Ward had a higher ERA for Amsterdam. [9] In the 2018 Hoofdklasse, he was 5-0 with a 1.41 ERA. He was 4th in ERA (between Lars Huijer and Heijstek). [10] He allowed 2 runs in 8 2/3 IP in three appearances against Neptunus in the 2018 Holland Series. He was 5th in average (between Heijstek and Cordemans), was 2nd in opponent average (.111, .006 ahead of Kelly), was 6th in IP (between Markwell and Yntema) and tied Kelly for second in games pitched (one behind van Mil). Despite his success in 2017-2018, he retired at year's end.
