Biographical Information[edit]

Left fielder Ramón Flores played in the New York Yankees minor league system starting in 2009 before making his major league debut with the team in 2015.

Flores was a high-profile international signee for the New York Yankees and scout Ricardo Finol in July 2008, with a $775,000 bonus. He got a brief look with the DSL Yankees 2 to open his career in 2009 (.256/.423/.487, 11 BB in 11 G) then got sent to the GCL Yankees when their season opened. His numbers were weak (.196/.303/.241) but he was 17 years old in a US-based league. He came back strong in 2010 and hit .303/.390/.419 in 65 games split between the GCL Yankees (.329/.436/.481, 33 R in 43 G), Charleston RiverDogs (.250/.294/.313 in 14 G) and Tampa Yankees (7 for 28, 2 RBI). He finished second in the Gulf Coast League in average (.037 behind Randolph Oduber), second in slugging (88 points behind Oduber), led in OBP (two points ahead of Oduber), was second to Oduber in OPS, tied Luke Yoder for third in walks (28) and tied for 7th in runs. He was named to the GCL All-Star team alongside Geancarlo Mendez and Oduber in the outfield, though he also saw regular action at 1B. Baseball America named him the #13 prospect in the GCL, between Kellen Sweeney and K.C. Hobson.

He hit .265/.353/.400 with 61 walks for the 2011 RiverDogs. Baseball America rated him as the Yankees' #13 prospect and as having the best strike-zone discipline in both the Yankees chain and the South Atlantic League. He led the Yankees farm chain in walks, two ahead of Austin Krum and Corban Joseph. He hit over .300 for the second time, in 2012, with a .303/.370/.425 line in 132 games split between Tampa (131 games) and the Trenton Thunder (1 game). He scored 85 runs and stole 24 bases in 33 tries. He was 8th in the Florida State League in OBP (between Tyler Collins and Carlos Alonso), 4th in average (behind Mike O'Neill, Christian Yelich and Rubi Silva), tied for 6th in doubles (29, even with Ryan Schimpf and James Robbins), tied for 7th in triples (7), second in runs (6 behind Marcell Ozuna) and tied Elieser Bonne for 8th in steals. In the Yankee chain, he was second to Tyler Austin in runs, led in hits (158, 17 ahead of Ronnier Mustelier), tied Gary Sanchez and Joseph for third in doubles, tied Eduardo Sosa for third in triples, was 5th in walks and ranked third in swipes (after Abraham Almonte and Angelo Gumbs. He was 3 for 12 with a walk, hit-by-pitch and two runs in winter ball for the Tigres de Aragua. Baseball America listed him as New York's 12th-best prospect.

His stock fell in 2013 as he hit .260/.353/.363 with 79 runs and 77 walks for Trenton. He also had 13 outfield assists. While he was still young for AA (21), his 716 OPS was low for a corner outfielder. He was 6th in the Eastern League in walks (between Travis Shaw and Justin Bloxom) and 4th in runs (after Danny Muno, Tyler Holt and Brian Goodwin). He was second in the Yankees chain in runs (5 behind Gregory Bird) and fourth in walks (between Rob Refsnyder and Taylor Dugas). He was 0 for 6 with a walk for Aragua in the winter. In 2014, he hit .260/.345/.498 with 11 home runs and 29 RBI in 73 games between the GCL Yankees 1 (2 G), GCL Yankees 2 (3 G) and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (63 G). In his first taste of Triple-A, he hit .247/.339/.443.

Flores made his major league debut on May 30, 2015, as the Yankees' starting left fielder against the Oakland Athletics. He had been called up earlier in the day to replace Slade Heathcott, who was placed on the disabled list and went 0 for 4 in his debut. He played 12 games for the Yankees, hitting .219 with a double. With Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he hit .286 with 11 doubles, 7 homers and 34 RBIs in 73 games. On July 30th, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners along with P José Ramírez in return for utility player Dustin Ackley. He played 14 games for the Tacoma Rainiers, hitting .423, but his season ended because of an injury and he did not get a chance to play for the Mariners. On November 20th, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in return for Luis Sardinas.
