Biographical Information

Outfielder Abraham Almonte reached the majors in 2013.

Originally signed by the New York Yankees in 2005, Almonte made his pro debut the following summer with the DSL Yankees 1. He missed the majority of the 2010 campaign due to a torn labrum but bounced back with the Tampa Yankees in 2011, playing in 131 games and putting together a 34-game hitting streak.

Prior to the 2013 season, Almonte was traded to the Seattle Mariners for Shawn Kelley. He was called up to the majors in late August and made his debut on August 30th. He went 1-for-5 with a pair of RBI as the team's starting right fielder against the Houston Astros. He played 25 games for Seattle, hitting .264 with 2 homers and 9 RBI. In 2014, he hit only .198 in 27 games for the Mariners. On July 31st, he was traded to the San Diego Padres, along with minor leaguer Stephen Kohlscheen, in return for outfielder Chris Denorfia, sticking with them through 2015.

On February 26, 2016, Almonte was suspended for 80 games after testing positive for the anabolic steroid Boldenone. It came at a time when he was slated to be starting in place of the injured Michael Brantley with the Cleveland Indians at the beginning of the season. He saw limited time with the Tribe the next two seasons, then caught on for brief appearances with Kansas City and Arizona in 2018 and 2019.
