Biographical Information[edit]
Corban Joseph made his big league debut in 2013; his brother Caleb Joseph came to the majors one year later.
Joseph was picked by the New York Yankees in the fourth round of the 2008 amateur draft after hitting .519 with 15 homers as a high school senior. He turned down a commitment to the University of Kentucky to sign with the Yankees. He batted .277/.359/.434 for the GCL Yankees that summer and tied Sebastián Valle for third in the Gulf Coast League with 15 doubles. With the 2009 Charleston RiverDogs, his batting line was .300/.381/.418 and he legged out eight triples. He was 5th in the South Atlantic League in batting average, between Andy D'Alessio and Erik Morrison, and he tied Xavier Avery for sixth in triples. He was named the league's All-Star 3B.
In 2010, Corban hit .302/.378/.436 in 98 games for the Tampa Yankees and .216/.305/.342 in 31 for the Trenton Thunder. He was 4th in the Florida State League in average (behind Stephen Vogt, Erik Komatsu and DJ LeMahieu) and 5th in OBP. His 7 triples tied Jimmy Paredes for fifth in the Yankees chain and his 33 doubles tied fort 7th among their farmhands. He lost FSL All-Star 2B honors to LeMahieu, but Baseball America named him as the best defensive second baseman in single-A. With Trenton in 2011, he produced at a .277/.353/.415 clip with 38 doubles, 8 triples and 75 runs. He tied Starling Marte for the Eastern League lead in two-baggers and he tied Marte, Audy Ciriaco and Ray Kruml for 4th in the EL in triples. He tied Derek Norris and Alex Hassan for 7th in the EL in runs. Among Yankee minor leaguers, he led in doubles and tied Kruml for third in triples. Yangervis Solarte was named the EL All-Star 2B. With the Phoenix Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League, Joseph hit only .227 in a hitter-friendly loop.
Joseph showed more home run pop in 2012, split between the Thunder (.314/.412/.430 in 23 G) and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (.266/.377/.474 in 84 G). He clubbed 15 home runs and drew 68 walks. He was third among Yankee minor leaguers in walks, behind veteran Jack Cust and Cito Culver, and tied Brandon Laird and Ronnier Mustelier for 10th in homers. This was despite missing almost a month with right shoulder trouble. He began 2013 back with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and his batting line was .270/.355/.434 after 31 games, with 22 runs. He was called up to the majors when Kevin Youkilis went on the disabled list, but did not play in his two days before the Yankees traded for Chris Nelson. He was called up again as the extra man for a doubleheader on May 13th. He started at 1B and hit 7th in a 1-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians in the opener, drawing a Justin Masterson walk his first time up but then being retired twice. In the nightcap, he went 1 for 4, doubling off Trevor Bauer in the 7th for his first major league hit, then scored. He played second base in that game.
After bouncing around the minor leagues from 2014 to 2017, Joseph returned to the major leagues on June 15, 2018, going 1-for-4 for the Baltimore Orioles in his first game back.
