Biographical Information[edit]
Larry Hays was a long-time college coach. He went 695-381-1 at Lubbock Christian College and 813-479-3 at Texas Tech University, setting school records for wins at both places. He is a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame. He was the 5th coach to 1,400 wins, following Augie Garrido, Cliff Gustafson, Gene Stephenson and Chuck Hartman. He coached the US in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup.
Hays also spent 2010 as the head softball coach at Lubbock Christian, replacing his son Shanon, who was head coach in 2008-2009. Larry was then replaced by another son, Daren Hays as softball coach. Daren had also previously been head baseball coach at Lubbock Christian. In 2015, Larry was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
