Biographical Information

Kit Scheetz was an undrafted free agent out of college but made it to AAA. He has also played for the German national team.

Scheetz was 9-1 with a 1.67 ERA as a high school junior but only pitched twice as a senior, having Tommy John surgery. He had a 5-1, 5.76 record as a freshman at Virginia Tech then 3-4, 5.22 as a sophomore. Pitching for the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod League, he was 2-1 with three saves, a 3.27 ERA and .73 WHIP. He tied for 10th in saves.

His junior season, he was 5-6 with a 4.82 ERA. Returning to Orleans, he was 0-2 with three saves and a 4.96 ERA. He again tied for tenth in saves. In 2017, he was 4-3 with a 3.86 ERA in college. He was not drafted but Houston Astros scout Tim Bittner signed him. He split the summer between the GCL Astros (13 K, 0 R in 6 1/3 IP), Tri-City ValleyCats (0-3, 2 Sv, 2.91) and Quad Cities River Bandits (2-0, Sv, 0.95). For his pro debut, he had a 1.72 ERA and 53 K in 47 IP, walking nine.

The left-hander pitched in 2018 for the Buies Creek Astros (3 Sv, 1.55; 44 K in 29 IP) and Corpus Christi Hooks (2-1, 4 Sv, 2.75; 43 K in 39 1/3 IP). He tied Colin McKee and Erasmo Pinales for 5th in the Astros chain in saves. 2019 was split between Corpus Christi (2-0, 3 Sv, .13 in 16 G) and the Round Rock Express (6.04 ERA in his AAA debut but with 36 K in 28 1/3 IP) with a rehab stint with the GCL Astros (5 R in 1 1/3 IP).

A non-roster invitee, he pitched one game in spring training for the 2020 Astros. The minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. He was 2-2 with a save and a 3.93 ERA for the '21 Sugar Land Skeeters but his control and K rate were down (31 BB, 44 K in 55 IP). Only Ronel Blanco and Michael Kelly made more appearances by an Astros farmhand than his 38.

The Virginia native opened 2022 with the independent Charleston Dirty Birds and did well (5-1, 3.88, 61 K in 55 2/3 IP), starting regularly for the first time as a pro instead of coming out of the bullpen. That earned him glances from two Mexican League teams, the Guerreros de Oaxaca (1-1, 7.56 in 5 G) and Mariachis de Guadalajara (0-1, 13 R in 7 IP).

He then pitched for Germany in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his lone appearance, he relieved Enorbel Márquez with one out and one on in the second against South Africa, down 1-0. He walked Brandon Bouillon then struck out Jason Carelse and got Jonathan Phillips to pop up. In the third, he struck out Victor Ngoepe and Kyle Botha, plunked Tyler Smith, allowed a Dayle Feldtman single and got Benjamin Smith to hit into a force. He plunked Tyrone Milne to open the 4th then Bouillon grounded into a force and Carelse into a double play. Jordan Martinson took over, Germany having taken a 2-1 lead by now. He tied Martinson for Germany's best ERA and had their best RA.
