Team History[edit]

The Mariachis de Guadalajara joined the Mexican League in 2021 as an expansion team, alongside the Águila de Veracruz. They play their home games in Zapopan, Jalisco, a suburb of Guadalajara, in a ballpark originally built for the 2011 Pan American Games and used until then by the Charros de Jalisco of the Mexican Pacific League. Because the Charros play in a winter league and the Mariachis in a summer league, the two teams can share a ballpark. To add to the complication - which is par for the course when it comes to Mexican baseball, "Charros" was the usual name given to teams from Guadalajara in the Mexican League, but it was unavailable when this squad was created, leading to the use of an original nickname, but one deeply seeped in Mexican culture.
